Each year, Noonie is sweating in December (and not from the weather!) It's my birthday on 17th December AND then it's Christmas less than a week later! So he has to get me double gifts in our busiest time of year! AND as we own/ choose all the stock ourselves for TheSuperCool, he has NO IDEA what to get me each year because I am fortunate enough to access all the things I like fairly easily.
So this year, I've put togethor a wish list to make it easier for him to nail what I LOVE but also to remind other women and other mama's who juggle a lot... sometimes you have to put the wish list out there so THEY GET IT!
1. Kip & Co Turkish Towels: I love soft, cosy towels that LOOK great but also dry! Ever since I upgraded my budget Target towels from share house days to good quality towels, I have finally understood what being a grown up is all about (that + paying taxes!!!) And this colour palette is totally inspiring my upcoming bathroom renovation vibes.
2. Kollab Beach Umbrella: I am quite fair but love going to the beach so a beach umbrella is a non-negotiable for me... + having a fringed beach umbrella outside over our picnic table makes me feel super festive!
3. Home By The Sea Book: I LOVE being nosy and checking out peoples houses and the WAY they live. This book showcases some incredible homes in a stunning location: the Byron Bay region!
4. Resin by Sage x Clare: This range of resin is so cool yet functional as well. The way the light shows through the patterns and the colours are so amazing. I particularly love the petal shaped pieces!
5. Crystals & Me Candles: I love candles for mood lighting and anyone who knows me knows I love me some crystals! So the fact this comes in a stunning reusable ceramic vessel is just a bonus really!
6. Modern Weaver Book: During Luna's pregnancy I did a weaving course and totally feel head over heels for weaving. So when Mary-Ann Moodie released this 2nd book of hers, I was like "hells yes!"
7. Striped Toiletry Bag: I love a nice toiletry bag - something about it sitting on the hotel / motel / airbnb bathroom area makes me feel more exotic and well travelled than I really am!
]]>TheSuperCool wants to give back to those families struggling through these tough times. Many families have suffered financially, mentally and emotionally. We understand being a small family business the pressure it puts on families to keep it all together!

What a day out, right? If you know a family who has suffered and would like to nominate them, here's how to do it!
HOW TO NOMINATE A FAMILY WHO SHOULD WIN THIS!
Email hey@thesupercool.com with the below info....
1. In the subject heading put: ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE NOMINATION: xxxx Name (put that families name in the subject heading)
2. The Families Name
3. The Families Email or a Phone number (and that person's name)
4. The Reason why you are nominating them
5. Your Name & a Message to that family (so we can say you nominated that family)
See example below.
Subject: ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE NOMINATION: NUNEZ FAMILY
Family Name: The Nunez Family
Contact Number: Adele Nunez 0400000000
Reason: I'm nominating The Nunez Family because the mother, Adele developed a long term illness last year and her husband Neil lost his job and they are also homeschooling. I feel they are deserving as they don't have family support and it feels really tough for them right now.
My Name: Kate Vandermeer
Message: I feel for you all so so much and want to send you all the love and blessings. You deserve a day out to forget your worries and I want to thank you for all your awesome Neighbourly moments over the last 2 years!
Each week we will award a family this $350 voucher and let them know directly.
Let's make a family smile and feel supported from their community!
We'll be posting some of the messages (anonymously) on our instagram if you want to follow along @thesupercool
Please share this on your socials so that we can reach as many families in need as possible and get lots of nominations to make those people feel loved!

We recently did a post on Instagram sharing some of the Lockdown Tips we've gained from #5 Lockdowns here in Melbourne. We asked our community to share their tips they've learned as well so we could have one place to post them and share them with others.
If you have a tip you'd like to share - shoot us an email via the contact page on our website or DM us on instagram and we'll add it.
Some of these tips are family focused and others aren't!
Kate & Noonie's Tips
1. Break up the day into segments so its mini bite size days to get through...
2. A morning walk or exercise as a family is crucial (fresh air and being outside gives perspective)
3. Eat lunch togethor / share some things you're grateful for at lunch to make the day more positive
4. Schedule 30 mins or if you can an hour each day where you and your partner get to have time out from parenting responsibilities (but during day not when the kids are in bed)
5. Meditate (cannot stress this enough)
6. Exercise - yoga, pilates, gym stuff whatever - gotta get the body moving as much as you can fit in per week
7. Treats- get everyone to nominate 1 treat they love and you get to share the treat each day in rotation (i.e. Monday is muffins, Tuesday is chocolate etc)
8. Facetime family + friends (try + create a routine so you have something to look forward too... aim for a Facetime when you’re cooking so you have some built in babysitting!
9. Plan your meals (again, ask everyone to nominate a fave meal + maybe depending on your kids age, they can help make that meal!)
10. Games night - to break up ALL the screen time, we did night games of Uno, Puzzles, Guess Who, Charades, quiz’s etc once our toddler was in bed!
11. Secret Bath Time: I craved this... I was completely unavailable to family, my phone, everyone during my baths... I read, lit a candle, popped some bath salts in + just relaxed.... highlight!
Community Tips added....
12. Support Small Business
13. There will be ‘something’ that calms you, when you notice it, just repeat. Doesn’t matter if you need to or not. I repotted so many plants that didn’t need it, touching dirt was it for me.
14. Do NOT beat yourself up.
15. Give yourself days away from the news. You don’t need to know all the updates all the time. You know lockdown is another 4 weeks, if anything big changes, you’ll hear. Step away from the newsfeed.
16. Check in on your loved one's; you never know who is doing it tough and struggling mentally. Speak to professionals if you need too... Lockdown can mess with your head.
Hopefully we won't need this list for much longer!

Earlier this year, Noonie + I discussed what we wanted this year "2020" to be about for our biz. We wanted to bring more CONSCIOUSNESS + CONNECTION to TheSuperCool.
As a result, we've asked some of our brands to do short video's about what they're doing to be more CONSCIOUS as a brand in relation to climate control + social responsibility. When watching and listening to these it dawned on me how important it is to share these stories with our customers and the community.
We had planned to launch this in March and then a lil thing called COVID happened! So we've had a slightly delayed launch for this concept!
We figure, if you're going to buy a gift for a family member or friend or new baby etc, you'd like for your purchase to have a dual purpose (providing joy for the receiver )but also supporting a small business and the brand that made the product in the process! Hopefully this video series will help you feel like your dollar spend really does count!
We're kicking this off with Halcyon Nights - our fave kids brand. It's seriously the CUTEST video. You just need to jump over to our instagram to watch the video. We'll also have a SAVED Instagram Highlight area for watching all of these.
Each week we'll share a new story. YAY!
We'd love your feedback on these and if you could share these with others you think might appreciate it, we would love that too!

Lately, I've been getting into podcasts - like ALOT! I'm pretty late to the game on this but finding time bymyself to listen to audio with a newborn proved difficult. As Luna is a bit older now, I've been listening to podcasts when I walk her in the pram and when I pick up Lola from school. During Isolation, I also listened to podcasts whilst doing personal deliveries for our SuperCool community! So I've found a few podcasts I've really been loving and wanted to share them with you all.
1. The Grace Tales - Georgie Abay host, editor + author of The Grace Tales website / online mag interviews some diverse mainly Aussie people covering all sorts of topics related to motherhood: i.e. Parenting, post-natal depletion, how to stop people pleasing, mindfulness and transformation, sisterhood and birth order! Fave's are: Jacqui Lewis, Teresa Palmer & Caitlin Cady.
2. Lady Start Up - Mama Mia presents all sorts of inspiring women who have begun biz's. My fave interview thus far has been the creator of Canva, "Melanie Perkins".
3. Second Life - Created by Hillary Kerr of Who What Wear and based in LA, this podcast interviews mainly Americans who have pivoted from one career to another. Some of my faves have been Miranda Kerr, Justina Blakeney, Reese Witherspoon and Cindy Crawford on their respective changes from one career to another.
4. Jumbled Loves a Chat - Pip has some great convo's with inspiring women from many different industries but mainly small biz about their lives and lessons learned! Fave's have been Phoebe from Sage + Clare, Rachel Castle, Jane Cay from Birdsnest.
5. Imprint by Natalie Walton - Natalie has curated a gentle, inspiring bunch of women who have chosen to lead a slower, quieter life. She shares their stories as to why and how. Faves have been Courtney Adamo & Emma Lane.
6. Offline - Alison Rice interviews a variety of people with Instagram profiles but likes to peel the layers behind their edited persona. She interviews experts on sleep, facing fears, post-natal depression, human design, Ayurveda and what success means to them. Faves have been Kelly Muller, Pip Edwards, Deborah Hutton and Jacyln Michelle.
I'm discovering new podcasts all the time, so I will edit this list as I find more that I dig but if you have any you recommend, please share!

Setting the mood.... so important for creating the right vibe for the whole casa!
(Particularly at the moment in Isolation!)
Come 6:30-7ish, I put lamps on & turn off all bright lights... I have our diffusor going throughout the day so the house smells amazing and often burn candles 🕯 at night when the kiddies are asleep to relax our parental bodies!!
The oils I love to use are listed below:
1. Upper Oil - great for mornings, focus + homeschooling, getting it done! Upper oil has woody + citrus oils which make it grounding + uplifting! Boom 💥
2. Centre Oil - perfect for baths, chilling, night time wind down... (pure lavender: so its super relaxing!) Great for calming tantrumy kids!
3. Downer Oil - great to put on your feet + wrists before meditation, yoga or bed! The ultimate mix of relaxing oils inc Patchouli + Sandalwood (my faves)
4. Australian Native: Eucalyptus & Acacia
Wanna feel energised & also like you live in the bush? This oil is super uplifting but also fresh & a lil slice of “home”.

There's a lot that's out of our CONTROL right now... but we can control some things... like how we respond to this... we've got a list of things you can do during social distancing to help you remain positive and SANE!
1. Have a BATH: Set up some candles, put some bath salts with epsom salts in (great for detoxing and cleaning up immunity) and add some pure essential oils like Lavender. Read a book, or just chill! NO SCREENS! Just relax and enjoy this bath.
2. Learn a Language: Pick a language, learn a word everyday - put notes around the house with each of the words so you keep building on it!
3. Read Books: Download some books on your kindle, borrow books from neighbours or free libraries (cause most libraries are shut now) and relax in your fave chair, bed or couch. Really take your time to slow down the brain that is used of cramming info in short time frames. Reading is pure mindfulness. Check out our collection of books here.
4. Grow some Plants: It's a great time to really grow & nurture your plants. Look at books & online guides as to which plants are best for inside and for your bedroom to improve your sleep quality. We've got some great planters, books on plants etc here..
5. Stop following negative people on social media: If anyone you follow makes you feel less than, competitive, why me etc... UNFOLLOW. Clean up your social media accounts and find positive, normal, interesting, diverse people to follow.
6. Limit your NEWS intake: go to trusted, non sensationalised news sources and check it once a day at the most. Don't let it DEFINE your thoughts and day. What you put into your world + thoughts is going to influence you. Like positive, uplifting tv, books & people make you feel good. Negative scary movies, people & books make you feel scared, angry and have nightmares. EDIT people!
7. COOKING: Clean out your cupboards, research recipes that are resourceful, wholesome and easy to make. Compile lists of what you can eat for snacks, lunches & dinners and have this list easy to find. Feeding yourself well and nutritionally is a good ritual for NOW and for LIFE!
8. EXERCISE: Get up and go for a walk, run, cycle, scoot etc or some fresh air as soon as you can in the morning. Being quarantined means you need to get out of the house each day, get some fresh air & define the day so you're not home ALL DAY LONG! Walk your pets, kids + selves!!
9. MAKE HOME COSY: Make sure you make your home look and feel as good as possible. You're going to be spending alot of time at home, so rearrange furniture to make it operate as best as possible and feel really good.
10. CLEANSE: Now is a great time to clean out wardrobes, work out what needs fixing, cleaning, donating. Go through old paperwork & shred/ recycle. Empty cupboards, wallets, handbags, backpacks - cleaning up makes you feel productive as well!
11. MEDITATE: If there is one thing you can do to help yourself right now, its MEDITATE. Scared to try? What if my mind overtakes? It definitely will... as someone who put this off for 37 years, I am testament that it works. I just keeping plugging away. I noticed a difference within weeks by sticking at it for a mere 10 mins a day. Now I REALLY notice if I don't meditate. I'm much calmer, more patient as a parent, go with the flow more, less anxious, my body feels better, my breathing is better, my overall decision making is more intuitive and less rushed. It's the best SLOWING down technique you can do and so so so good for you. I started with a free app called CALM... did the intro 7 days of calm and boom... then the 30 day program and then everyday!
If you have any other tips you want to share, jump on instagram and share them with us.
]]>Well, for most parents this social distancing thing is keeping kids entertained! We've compiled some tips on things to do to help you get through.

BRAND NAME: Canvas+Sasson
DESIGNER: Sarah Quin
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS: 9 years
DESCRIBE CANVAS & SASSON IN 3 WORDS: Eclectic, Colourful and Inspired.
CANVAS & SASSON IS ALL ABOUT EMBRACING TEXTURE, PRINT AND COLOUR! HOW DO YOU FIND STAYING TRUE TO THIS ETHOS GOES WHEN TRENDS COME AND GO IN HOMEWARES E.G. MINIMALISM VS BOHO ETC?
Canvas+Sasson has a clear vision, in that we love travelling and exploring different cultures, to bring our customers an inspired mix of classic and bohemian homewares. We do look at trends in the fashion and interiors space, but we tend not to base collections around these trends - just take snippets of colour or techniques and play with those elements. We are definitely a very eclectic brand that offer classic and timeless styles to more bohemian looks. Essentially we just create pieces we love!
HOW DO YOU APPROACH EACH SEASON? DO YOU PICK A TRAVEL DESTINATION AND THINK ABOUT LOCAL CULTURAL DESIGN OR DO YOU LOOK AT BEST SELLERS AND HOW YOU COULD APPLY TEXTURES FROM THAT SEASON TO THE NEXT SEASON?
We approach each season with a plan, as well as working more organically. We always need to have a partial plan in place, so we know what areas we need to order for, what colour palettes we’re working towards and what techniques we’d like to utilise, but we try not to be too fixed in these ideas. We develop mood boards to also keep us focused as it is easy to go off on a crazy tangents!
C+S travel to India twice a year, as well as Europe, South America and other parts of Asia, and they always inspire us in unexpected ways. It’s so great being on the road and creating our designs based on things that give us hits of inspiration!
YOU RECENTLY JOINED FORCES WITH SASSON? SO NOW YOU OFFER THE FULL
EXPERIENCE. TEXTILES, SOFT FURNISHINGS AND FURNITURE. WHAT DROVE THIS
DECISION?
One of our driving forces behind the merge, was to create a full lifestyle brand that can offer everything for many interior styles. We can now bring our customers styles that go from start to finish in home decor - the bedlinen, the bedhead, bedside table and lamp that sits on it… And this also allows us to aim bigger and better with each season!
HOW DO YOU FIND THE MOVEMENT TOWARDS FAIR TRADE AND KNOWING WHERE PRODUCT IS MADE? IS THERE MUCH CLARITY OVER WHERE YOU CAN SOURCE YOUR DESIGNS WHEN YOU ARE ON THE GROUND IN INDIA ETC?
C+S have very strong relationships with our suppliers and we will not bring on a new supplier until we have visited their factories and are happy with their work practices, treatment of employees and philosophy in regards to environmental practices. We have a fantastic group of suppliers that we’ve been collaborating with for many years and they have become lovely friends who we enjoy seeing on our trips, hearing about which daughter is getting married next, who just had a baby and their life in India - so different to ours!
YOUR LATEST IMAGERY FOR YOUR CAMPAIGNS IS NEXT LEVEL! TELL US ABOUT YOUR COLLABORATION WITH YOUR STYLIST?
We really wanted to create an aspirational campaign this time around and we’re absolutely thrilled with the results! We had quite a few shoots in Sydney and Melbourne (lots of work, but great fun) and we teamed up with Stylist extraordinaire Heidi Albertiri of The Life Style Edit. She’s incredibly hard working and has a beautiful positive energy and we really loved working with her. We have just launched our Catalogue for 2017 / 2018 which you can view online, or request a hard copy and all our new campaign images can be seen in the gallery - some really amazing shots are there - even if we say so ourselves!
HOW HAVE YOU FOUND THE AUSTRALIAN RETAIL MARKET IN THE LAST 2 YEARS? WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING SHIFT FROM A BUSINESS POINT OF VIEW?
As we have a lot of retail customers, it is really interesting to hear all the mixed views on how they are going. I think the classic ‘bricks and mortar’ stores are having to re invent themselves and keep adapting as the online market has really changed the way customers shop. We still believe there is demand for both but it is pushing everyone to provide an exceptional experience as customers have greater choice in the market place.
HOW HAVE YOU FOUND INSTAGRAM IN TERMS OF PROMOTING YOUR BRAND?
Instagram is amazing! It’s definitely one of the best platforms for getting the brand out there, especially as we are such a ‘visual’ industry - it’s got a great reach, it’s a lovely, supportive community and it’s also a great way to keep in touch with what’s happening in the industry, in a really quick and accessible way!
WE LOVE THE NEW " CARAVANE" COLLECTION. THE COLOURS, THE TEXTURE, THE CRAZINESS! DESCRIBE HOW THIS COLLECTION CAME TO BE?
Oh we love this collection too! We had an idea to do this woven look in a more unexpected colour palette (not natural!) and our first thought was a sunset palette - blush, coral, apricot - but then it grew from there and we added in the sky blue and hints of charcoal. And following our C+S ethos of more is more, we then decided to get as textural as possible!!
